Intuitive Surgical Single Port Robot

Single Port Robot At St Vincent’s Hospital

Professor Stricker Commences Training on Single Port Robot.

Prof Phillip Stricker will be the first urologist in Australia to be trained on the new single-port robotic system, the first such system in Australia. He will be working alongside Dr Ben Namdarian and Associate Professor James Thompson. The inaugural case will be performed by Prof Stricker at St Vincent’s Private Hospital in late July 2025.

Unlike the traditional multi-port approach, which requires multiple incisions, the single-port robot allows all instruments to enter through a single site. This minimally invasive method offers potential benefits such as quicker recovery times and reduced surgical impact, particularly when accessing the prostate via the extraperitoneal plane.

Professor Stricker notes that while the technology is still evolving, it shows promise not only for prostate surgery but also in procedures involving the kidney, bladder, and even broader fields such as ENT, colorectal, and thoracic surgery. He considers it a valuable addition to the range of treatment options offered at St Vincent’s, which already includes multi-port robotic surgery, IMRT, brachytherapy, NanoKnife focal therapy, and active surveillance.

Professor Stricker sees it primarily as a way to further enhance patient care and expand the tools available for managing prostate cancer.
